PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Tuesday returned to Manila after his three-day state visit to Cambodia, where he secured five business deals and three government-to-government agreements.

In his arrival statement, Marcos said he had a constructive exchange with, among others, Acting Head of State and Senate President Hun Sen on advancing the two countries’ bilateral relations across key sectors and fora.

The President said he also met with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, and they underscored “the mutual regard that we place on our close bilateral and multilateral cooperation.”

”We had a productive engagement with the top businesses in Cambodia together with our official business delegation, where our discussions focused on our complementary strengths and how both sides can offer each other unique opportunities for growth and for market diversification,” Marcos said.

”Our discussion resulted in strategic partnerships through the signing of five business agreements. They are in the sectors of mutual interests such as aviation, logistics, women-led MSMEs (micro, small and medium enterprises), exploration of market opportunities for Philippine exports of products and services, and institutional partnerships for our business associations,” he added.

The President also cited the agreements on police cooperation, higher education, and air connectivity that the two countries signed on Monday.

“And while we opened doors for tourism and cultural exchanges and reaped the benefits of regional integration, we also recognized the emerging security threats in our region,” Marcos said.

”In this regard, we affirmed our determination to fight criminal elements that misuse technology and exploit our peoples,” he added.

Marcos said that both sides also signed the MOU between the Commission on Higher Education and the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport of the Kingdom of Cambodia on cooperation in higher education.

”This allows the Philippines to continue its noble work in providing empowerment to people in the region, opening the door to their social mobility and professional improvement,” the President said.

”This has been the Philippines’ track record for many decades now, and we will continue to help the region in this way,” he added.

During his visit, the President said he expressed his appreciation for Cambodia’s support for the Philippines’ bid for a non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council and for the Philippines’ Chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) in 2026.

The President also reiterated the government’s commitment to creating a business-friendly environment that supports private sector growth in both countries.

He said that the partnership between the private sector and the government was vital in achieving sustainable development and inclusive growth.

The roundtable was organized by the Department of Trade and Industry, the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Business Association in Cambodia.

Marcos said that such a platform provided valuable opportunities for business communities to exchange ideas, forge partnerships, create jobs, stimulate investments, and foster innovation while promoting inclusive growth.

”To our Filipino and Cambodian business leaders: Your efforts are at the forefront of this partnership. As you shape the economic landscape of both the Philippines and Cambodia, know that we are beside you in laying the foundations for a future marked by shared growth and opportunity,” Marcos said.

The President called on business leaders to support the Philippines as it prepares to assume the Asean Chairmanship next year.
